Madison's getting-ready portraits were some of the most beautiful we have captured at this venue. The Little Barn has large windows that let in soft, directional natural light — the kind of light that makes lace glow and skin look luminous without any artificial help. Madison wore a gown with delicate lace detailing that came alive in that window light, and the rustic wooden backdrop of the barn added warmth and texture to every frame.

We spent time on the details that mattered to her: the bouquet with its soft blush tones, the jewelry she chose for the day, and the quiet moments with her bridal party before the ceremony. The best getting-ready images are never about the dress alone — they are about the emotion of the morning, the anticipation, and the small gestures between the bride and the people she loves most. The evening unfolded the way the best receptions do: heartfelt toasts, genuinely good food (the venue's culinary team is one of the strongest we have encountered in Connecticut), and a dance floor that filled early and stayed full. One of the reception details we loved was the Instax cameras placed at each table — guests snapped candid Polaroids throughout the night and left them for Eric and Madison, creating a collection of real-time memories from their guests' perspective.

Work with your coordinator to time the ceremony so portraits and the ceremony itself fall within the two hours before sunset. In peak Connecticut wedding season (June through September), this means a ceremony start time between 5:00 and 6:00 PM.
  • Use the property for portraits. The grounds at Wesleyan Hills are extensive and gorgeous. Plan 30-45 minutes after the ceremony for couple portraits — the pond, the willow trees, the stone pathways, and the barn exteriors all provide distinct backdrops without needing to leave the property or disrupt the cocktail hour flow.
  • Embrace the barn aesthetic in your wardrobe. The rustic setting photographs beautifully with both classic and relaxed styles.
